Walker County Animal Control officers rescued three severely neglected dogs Monday morning after responding to a report of abandoned animals at McWilliams Cemetery on West Armuchee Road and Smith Gap Road.

According to Walker County officials, a concerned citizen reported seeing three dogs left at the cemetery Sunday evening. When animal control officers arrived on scene, they found two emaciated dogs running loose through the cemetery, frightened and searching for food.

While attempting to safely capture the dogs, officers heard a faint sound coming from a nearby drainage pipe. Upon investigating, they discovered a third dog, extremely weak and severely emaciated, hiding inside the pipe. Officers later named the dog “Miracle” after her dramatic rescue.

Officials say the dog had likely crawled into the small drainage pipe seeking shelter after being abandoned. Too weak to move on her own, Miracle was carefully removed by animal control officers and rushed to a local veterinary clinic, where she weighed only 10 pounds.

All three dogs are now receiving medical care, food, and attention as they begin the recovery process.

Walker County Animal Control officials say cases like this are unfortunately becoming all too familiar and are urging residents to seek help if they are unable to care for animals. Resources are available for pet owners in need of assistance.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the dogs or providing any information about who may have abandoned them. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Walker County Animal Control at 706-924-0053 or email [email protected]. Tips may be submitted anonymously.

Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as the dogs continue to receive care and recover from the severe neglect.
