Visitors to the LaFayette–Walker County Public Library can now explore a temporary exhibit highlighting archaeological research connected to Lookout Mountain.
The exhibit, located in the Shaw History Room, features a series of interpretive panels that offer a preview of materials being developed for the future Museum of LaFayette. Through photographs, maps, and historical imagery, the display introduces ongoing research and helps place Lookout Mountain within the broader natural and cultural history of the region.
While temporary, the exhibit is part of a larger effort to develop permanent displays for the Museum of LaFayette, which is scheduled to open in mid-2026. The museum will be housed inside the historic Chattooga Academy building, also known as Gordon Hall. Built in the 1830s, the structure is one of the oldest surviving brick school buildings in Georgia and will soon serve as a hub for preserving and sharing local history.
In the meantime, the public is encouraged to visit the library to view the exhibit and learn more about the ongoing work to bring the museum to life.
The LaFayette–Walker County Public Library is located at 305 S. Duke Street in LaFayette.
