Walker County E-911 recently honored Beth McJunkin Plott as the 2024 recipient of the Theresa Parker Dispatcher of the Year award. The recognition came during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, an annual observance dedicated to the men and women who serve as the vital link between the public and emergency responders.
Plott, who has served as a dispatcher for five years, was nominated by her peers for her unwavering dedication, professionalism, and compassion. Colleagues describe her as someone who consistently goes above and beyond—both for callers in crisis and for her fellow dispatchers. One co-worker shared that if her own family ever had to call 911, she would hope Beth was the one to answer, knowing they would receive quick, competent, and compassionate help.
In the past year alone, Plott has received two Lifesaver awards after successfully guiding callers through CPR procedures that ultimately saved lives. These critical incidents occurred on November 10 and August 26, 2024.
She has also earned two Above and Beyond awards for exemplary service. The first came after a medical emergency on August 13, when a caller praised her for her calming presence and professionalism. The second was for a call on September 29, in which Plott provided essential assistance to an elderly woman without power, ensuring the caller felt supported and safe.
The Theresa Parker Dispatcher of the Year award was established in 2010 to honor the memory of Theresa Parker, a dedicated Walker County dispatcher who was tragically murdered. A commemorative plaque listing each year’s recipient hangs in the hallway of the Walker County E-911 center as a lasting tribute to her legacy and the excellence of those who follow in her footsteps.
