Chattooga County authorities have arrested Michael Lance Brown on multiple felony charges related to child pornography and illegal surveillance.
Brown, who was previously employed by the DeKalb County Alabama School System as a volleyball coach at Valley Head High School, was taken into custody on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Sheriff Mark Schrader reported that Brown used a hidden video recorder to capture illicit images.
Brown faces a series of felony counts, including:
Sexual Exploitation of Children (6 counts)
Computer or Electronic Pornography and Child Exploitation (6 counts)
Unlawful Eavesdropping or Surveillance (11 counts)
Possession of an Eavesdropping Device (2 counts)
Surreptitious Recording of Intimate Parts (11 counts)Transmission of Photography or Video Depicting Nudity or Sexually Explicit Conduct of an Adult (5 counts)
He remains in custody at the Chattooga County Jail.
DeKalb County Schools issued a statement confirming that Brown has been removed from all duties pending the investigation and clarified that the charges are not connected to their students. The arrest follows an ongoing investigation conducted by Chattooga County officials.
Brown was denied bond on Wednesday.
