Several visitor facilities at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will temporarily close this weekend because of potentially hazardous ice conditions.
According to the National Park Service, the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center, and Point Park will be closed beginning Saturday, Jan. 24, and continuing through Sunday, Jan. 25. Park officials said the closures are being implemented out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of both visitors and staff.
The park plans to reopen the facilities once weather conditions improve and employees are able to safely assess impacted areas.
Officials are urging visitors and commuters to use extreme caution while traveling on park roadways or walking through park grounds during icy or snowy conditions, noting that surfaces can become dangerous quickly.
The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center is located at 3370 LaFayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe. The Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center and Point Park are located at 110 Point Park Road in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.
