Chickamauga Mayor James C. Deck III could face removal from office following a brief and unanimous action by the City Council Tuesday evening.

In a meeting lasting less than three minutes at the Chickamauga Civic Center, Mayor Pro Tem Evitte Parrish and the City Council voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing to determine whether grounds exist for Deck’s removal. No explanation or details were provided during the meeting regarding the reason for the potential action.

Before the vote, Parrish read aloud a section of the city’s charter outlining the process for removing a public official. The motion approved by the council authorizes a public hearing, which will provide Mayor Deck an opportunity to be heard, Parrish said.

Council members were advised that a date for the hearing did not need to be set immediately. Following the vote, Parrish adjourned the meeting without further discussion.

As of Tuesday night, no date had been announced for the public hearing, and city officials have not released additional information regarding the matter.
