The City of Chickamauga is holding a specially called meeting today at 4 p.m., for a public hearing that could result in the removal of Mayor James C. Deck III from office.
The meeting will take place at City Hall and will focus solely on the agenda items related to removal proceedings under Section 2.18 of the City of Chickamauga Charter, which governs the process for ousting public officials.
The hearing will begin with the city attorney confirming that Mayor Deck was properly served with written notice specifying the grounds for removal. The city attorney will then present information supporting the allegations, followed by an opportunity for Mayor Deck or his legal counsel to respond. Each side is allowed up to 45 minutes for their presentations, with additional time for final statements before the council deliberates.
After the public hearing, the city council may take action authorized under the city charter, including the potential removal of Mayor Deck from office.
Mayor Pro Tem Evitte Parrish will preside over the meeting. Other council members include Lee Miller, Rhonda Jacks, David Jones, and Matthew Nave, with City Manager Micheal Haney overseeing administrative matters.
City officials stressed that the meeting will address only the removal proceedings and no other city business will be conducted.
