The City of Chickamauga says a pending hearing regarding the possible removal of Mayor Trey Deck is based on unspecified “allegations” and is being handled as a human resources matter.

In a statement posted to social media Saturday evening, Jan. 31, city officials said they are acting on the advice of legal counsel and emphasized that the matter requires discretion for all parties involved.

According to the city, Mayor Deck will be provided a fair hearing and will have the opportunity to present his defense.

The public hearing was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon but was postponed shortly before it was set to begin after city officials determined the meeting venue could not accommodate the number of attendees. The Chickamauga Civic Center, where the hearing was scheduled, has a limited seating capacity.

City administrators said the hearing has not yet been rescheduled. Officials also confirmed that Mayor Deck’s attorney was formally notified of the allegations and provided supporting evidence on Jan. 15.

No additional details regarding the nature of the allegations were released.
