The City of LaFayette has been awarded $778,706.04 in federal funding through the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office, marking a major step forward in the city’s long-term efforts to modernize and reinforce its electric system.

City officials reported that the funding will support the replacement of aging components and the installation of system upgrades designed to bolster reliability, especially during periods of severe weather. The improvements are aimed at reducing outages, enhancing performance, and ensuring long-term resiliency for LaFayette’s electric customers.

To secure the federal grant, a local match is required. LaFayette is allocating $381,565.96 in SPLOST funds to fulfill that obligation. In doing so, the city is leveraging each local dollar to attract roughly two federal dollars, maximizing the return on its infrastructure investment.

City leaders emphasized that maintaining reliable, modern infrastructure remains a top priority and credited the state and federal partnership for helping move this critical project forward.
