The City of LaFayette has announced a new name for its long-planned greenway park project as construction continues into the new year.

City officials revealed the park will be known as Traverse Park, replacing the temporary working title “Greenway Park.” The name reflects the park’s purpose of connecting different areas of the city and encouraging movement through the heart of LaFayette.

Traverse Park will link the Downtown Square with the Mars Theater District and serve as the anchor for the city’s broader greenway trail system. The space is designed to be accessible to residents of all ages and abilities, featuring trails, climbing elements, an inclusive playground, and a wheels park.

An early rendering of the park’s signage has also been released and will be installed as the project nears completion.

The park is funded primarily through a $2.2 million Improving Neighborhood Outcomes federal grant, with the required local match provided through SPLOST funds. City officials anticipate Traverse Park will be completed by June 2026 and say they look forward to sharing continued updates as the project progresses.
