December 19, 2025, marks 17 years since Michael Mullens, a father and local business owner, was shot and killed outside his machine shop in Flintstone. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains active and is again asking the public for help in identifying those responsible.

On the morning of December 19, 2008, deputies with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, along with agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, responded to a homicide at Premier Pattern and Machine on Woodburn Road. Investigators determined that Mullens had just arrived at his business when he was ambushed by an unknown individual or individuals and shot in the back of the head.

Over the past 17 years, investigators have followed numerous leads and pursued information related to the case. Despite those efforts, no arrests have been made. Authorities say they remain committed to bringing justice to Mullens’ family and believe someone may still have information that could help solve the case.

“We are seeking any information that may help us obtain justice for Michael Mullens and his family,” investigators said. “Even information that may seem minor could be critical in solving this case.”

Anyone with information about the homicide is urged to contact Detective Walter Hensley at 706-670-1939, by email at [email protected], or to submit an anonymous tip through the Walker County Sheriff’s Office website at www.walkerso.com.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office thanked the public for its continued support and encouraged anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward.
