A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of north Georgia through 9 a.m. Tuesday, with dangerously low wind chills expected overnight.

According to the advisory, wind chill values are forecast to range from five below zero to five above zero from 8 p.m. Monday through Tuesday morning. The frigid conditions could pose a risk to anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods of time.

Officials warn that the extreme cold may be especially dangerous for residents still dealing with power outages. People are urged to limit time outdoors when possible and ensure they have a safe and reliable heat source.

Residents traveling outside are advised to wear appropriate winter clothing, including hats and gloves, and to use caution while on the roads. Authorities also encourage frequent wellness checks on elderly family members, friends and neighbors.

Safety reminders include using portable heaters properly and avoiding the use of generators or grills indoors, which can create serious fire and carbon monoxide hazards.
