Early voting gets underway today in Walker County for the March 10 Special Election, giving residents in portions of northwest Georgia an opportunity to cast ballots ahead of Election Day.

Voters who live in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District will see two races on their ballot: the United States House of Representatives for District 14 and the Georgia State Senate for District 53.

The primary early voting site will be the Walker County Elections Office, located at 311 South Main Street in LaFayette. Voting there will run from February 16 through March 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The office will be closed Sundays. Extended hours will be offered March 3, when polls will open at 8 a.m. and remain open until 6 p.m.

Saturday voting at the Elections Office will also be available February 21 and February 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition, four satellite early voting locations will be open for limited dates. Those sites include Rock Spring, the Rossville Civic Center, the Chickamauga Civic Center and Fairyland. These locations will be open Saturday, February 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekdays March 2 through March 6, also from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended hours at those locations will be available March 3 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Election Day is set for Tuesday, March 10. All 11 Walker County precincts will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Officials remind voters that on Election Day, ballots must be cast at their assigned precinct.

Election officials encourage residents to take advantage of early voting or make a plan to vote on Election Day, noting that turnout often plays a critical role in special elections.
