Today is Election Day in Walker County, and voters have one final opportunity to cast their ballots in the Democratic Special Primary Runoff for Georgia’s Public Service Commission. Due to extremely low turnout in the June primary—where fewer than 1% of registered voters participated—only one polling location will be open.
Voting will take place exclusively at the LaFayette Senior Center, located at 636 S. Main Street in LaFayette. This site serves the precinct where the county courthouse is located, in accordance with Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-270[3]), which mandates limited polling locations in low-turnout runoff elections.
At stake is a seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission, a powerful regulatory body that oversees the state’s utilities, including electricity and natural gas. The decisions made by commissioners can significantly influence energy rates and policies affecting millions of Georgians.
