For the second weekend in a row, if your driving into Chattanooga avoid a key stretch of Interstate 24, as roadwork will once again bring a full closure to the eastbound lanes near the Germantown exit.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced that I-24 East will be closed from 9:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 27, through 6:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, June 30, for essential maintenance work. The closure, which is weather dependent, marks the final planned eastbound shutdown at this location as part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project.
According to a traffic advisory issued by the City of Chattanooga’s Public Works Department, while the closure is being carried out by TDOT, it will directly impact local city streets and traffic patterns in the Germantown area.
Drivers are urged to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time throughout the weekend. Electronic message boards will be posted to guide motorists through detours and help alleviate congestion.
City officials encourage residents and commuters to stay updated on traffic conditions and monitor advisories as the weekend approaches.
