FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. — An attempted abduction reported at a local Burger King earlier this month has been determined to be false following a police investigation.
On February 17, 2026, officers with the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department responded to 831 Battlefield Parkway in reference to a reported attempted abduction. Prior to officers’ arrival, the suspect — described as a masked male driving a black panel van — had reportedly left the scene.
According to the initial report, a female employee had been taking trash to an outside receptacle when she was approached by a masked man who allegedly tried to get her to come to his vehicle. The employee fled back inside the restaurant and notified management, fearing for her safety. No physical contact occurred, and no further interaction was reported.
Officers made contact with the complainant, obtained a statement, and issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for the suspect vehicle. A report was filed, and extra patrols were established in the area in an effort to locate the van.
However, a follow-up investigation — including a review of surveillance footage — determined that the incident had been falsely reported and did not occur. Authorities stated that the false report is being handled appropriately.
The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department said it has received multiple inquiries about the situation due to information circulating on social media. Officials emphasized their commitment to transparency and keeping the public informed about significant incidents as information becomes available.
Police reiterated that they remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
