The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has unveiled a proposal for a localized bypass route along the southwest side of Summerville, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the city. The project includes plans for roundabouts at three key intersections: State Route 114, State Route 100, and State Route 1/U.S. 27.
As part of its public outreach efforts, GDOT has launched an online engagement portal where residents can learn more about the proposed bypass and provide feedback. Community input will play a vital role in shaping the project.
An in-person Public Information Open House (PIOH) is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chattooga County Civic Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to review detailed plans, speak with GDOT representatives, and submit written comments on-site.
The public comment period remains open through August 15, 2025. GDOT encourages all residents, business owners, and stakeholders to review the plans and share their opinions.
To participate in the online survey and view project documents, visit GDOT’s official website. Community feedback is essential to ensure the project reflects the needs and priorities of Summerville residents.
