Walker County has launched a community connectivity plan.  The county was one of 50 chosen for the Connect Humanity Program.  Developed by the Appalachia Regional Commission, the purpose is to build long term, sustainable solutions to the area’s digital needs.  According to the Community Connectivity Plan more than 16% of Walker County’s population is not online.  The plan says that access is impacted by affordability and availability.  More than 40% of the households in the county with incomes less than $20,000 do not have internet.  More than 17% of the county uses a wireless solution like satellite or cellular to get internet access.  Walker County has started a public wi-fi initiative.  Wi-Fi is now available at The Civic Center, the Main Courthouse and the Rossville Community Center.  Funding has been approved for free public wi-fi and a charging station at Walker Rocks Park.
It took only 20 minutes for a Walker County jury to find Christopher Bullock guilty of murder.  Bullon was found guilty in the October 2023 murder of his live-in girlfriend Tammy Cropper.  Bullock shot Cropper multiple times and then shot himself in the head in a failed suicide attempt.  Bullock was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, aggravate assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.  Bullock was found guilty on December 5th.  Bullock was given a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The Georgia Department of Human Resources says there will be an early release of SNAP benefits.  If you normally would receive your benefits on the 21st, you can expect them a day early.  You should get them on the 20th.  If you’re scheduled to receive them on the 23rd.  You can expect to have your benefits by December 21st.
The price of gas in Northwest Georgia remains among the cheapest in the state.  According to Triple-A, a gallon of regular unleaded in Dade, Walker and Catoosa Counties is $2.76.  Only Albany can boast better gas prices in the state.  Statewide a gallon of regular unleaded costs $2.91.  Triple-A says that gas prices are down about six-cents per gallon from this time last year.
