Georgia DDS Warns Drivers of Scam Texts Posing as State DMV

SHARE NOW

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is alerting residents about a widespread scam involving fraudulent text messages falsely claiming to be from the “State DMV.” These messages typically reference unpaid traffic tickets and urge recipients to click on a link to resolve the issue — but officials warn it’s a trap.

According to DDS, the messages are not legitimate and are designed to steal personal and financial information. The agency emphasizes that it never requests payment or personal data via text message.

“This is a scam,” said DDS officials in a recent public advisory. “Do not click on any suspicious links or share your personal details.”

The scam texts may appear urgent or threatening, but drivers are urged to remain calm and avoid interacting with the messages. Instead, individuals should report the messages and verify any claims by visiting the official DDS website at dds.drives.ga.gov.

The department reminds all Georgians to stay vigilant and protect themselves from identity theft.
