High School Sports Round Up: Ramblers Shine in Track, Soccer and Golf

It was a busy and successful week for LaFayette athletics, as Rambler teams turned in strong performances across multiple sports.

The LaFayette High School track and field team delivered an impressive showing Tuesday at a meet hosted by Heritage High School, highlighted by multiple first-place finishes and personal records.

Porter Sentell led the way, capturing first place in the boys 100-meter dash and the long jump. Kevin Carmichael won the boys 110-meter hurdles, with Gabriel Candies finishing second and Aaden McGuire fourth. Aiden Keaton added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters. On the girls side, Alex Dodson placed third in the 100-meter dash and Annabelle Penland finished fourth in the 400 meters.

In relay action, the boys 4×100 team of Tay Ware, Sentell, Keaton and Bryson Penson placed third, while the 4×400 squad of Issac Hamilton, Kenryk Chastain, Penson and Jake Nave finished fourth.

Daniel Rivera won the high jump, and Zaire Grissom placed third in the shot put. Several athletes recorded new personal bests, including Carmichael in the 110 hurdles with a 16.32 time and Grissom with a 41-foot, 4½-inch throw in the shot put.

On the soccer field, the Ramblers’ JV boys team earned a 3-0 home victory over Ridgeland High School. Caleb Pearson opened the scoring, followed by a goal from Eli Pearson off an assist from Gavin Dodd. Cayden Decker added a third goal with help from Landen Holbrook. The JV team travels to Ridgeland next, while varsity hosts its first region match Friday.

Meanwhile, Rambler and Lady Rambler golf opened the 2026 season with a sweep of Heritage at Nob North Golf Course. The boys won 172-189 behind Jake Ledbetter’s 40 and Josh Franks’ 42. The Lady Ramblers claimed an 87-100 victory, led by LC Mullaly’s round of 39. Both teams return to action Thursday at Fields Ferry Golf Course.
