The Democratic race for Georgia’s Public Service Commission District 3 seat has been decided. Peter Hubbard secured a victory over Kiesha Sean Waites in Tuesday’s primary runoff election.

While voter turnout remained low in some areas — including Walker County, where only 78 ballots were cast — Hubbard won the local vote decisively, receiving 63 votes to Waites’ 15.

Statewide, Hubbard carried the race with 58 percent of the vote.

With the primary now settled, Hubbard advances to the General Election in November, where he will face a Republican challenger for the District 3 seat on the commission, which oversees utilities and energy regulation in Georgia.
