The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that the intersection of South Main Street (Business Highway 27) and West Main Street (Highway 193), near the former Family Dollar building, will be closed to traffic from Monday, Sept. 15 through Friday, Sept. 19.
The closure is part of a state roadway improvement project. City officials emphasized that the project is being managed and carried out by GDOT, not the City, but the update is being shared to help residents and commuters plan ahead.
During the closure, GDOT will post and mark official detour routes on-site to guide motorists around the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to follow signage, allow extra travel time, and use caution when navigating the downtown area.
Officials thanked the community for its patience as the state completes this work to improve roadway safety and efficiency.
