The City of LaFayette Parks and Recreation Department has been honored with the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Outstanding Program of the Year Award, recognizing its commitment to creating meaningful, engaging youth experiences rooted in teamwork, sportsmanship, and community.

This summer, LaFayette Recreation partnered with Calhoun Parks and Recreation to launch the first-ever “Department vs. Department Field Day,” a collaborative event that brought together nearly 80 summer campers for a day of friendly competition, laughter, and classic field day activities. Campers participated in inflatable water games, enjoyed time at the pool and splash pad, and took part in team-based challenges that emphasized cooperation and encouragement.

The highlight of the event came during a spirited tug-of-war competition between camp counselors—many of whom are local teens—with LaFayette proudly securing the win.

Program Organizer Christy Madden led the summer staff team, whose creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication helped provide local children with a safe, affordable, and memorable camp experience. The department’s leadership credits the award to the strong sense of teamwork and commitment demonstrated by the entire summer staff.

“We believe every young resident deserves a fun and supportive place to grow, play, and make friends,” the department shared. “This award celebrates not just a program, but the people who made it special.”

The City of LaFayette encourages the community to join in congratulating the Parks and Recreation team on this well-deserved statewide recognition.
