The LaFayette Lady Ramblers opened play at the GHSA State Softball Tournament in Columbus on Thursday, splitting their first two games of the double-elimination bracket.
LaFayette started strong with an 8–1 victory over North Hall in Game One. The Ramblers broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning and added insurance in the seventh when Tamra Yancy blasted a two-run home run.
In their second game of the day, LaFayette fell to Cherokee Bluff, 10–2.
The Lady Ramblers will return to action Friday at 1 p.m. as they continue their pursuit of a state championship.
