TRENTON, GA — The race to unseat Democrat Senator Jon Ossoff may be gaining a bold new contender as State Senator Colton Moore signals he is considering a run for the U.S. Senate — a move that could galvanize Georgia’s conservative base and reshape the Republican primary field.
Moore, who represents northwest Georgia in the State Senate, is known for his unapologetically conservative views and grassroots appeal. If he enters the race, Moore has promised to be “one of the most conservative voices in Washington,” a stance that would likely energize GOP voters eager for strong leadership.
With Governor Brian Kemp and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene confirming they will not pursue the nomination, the field is beginning to take shape around figures who have a clear message and conservative credentials. Current GOP contenders include Congressman Buddy Carter, a seasoned lawmaker from the coast, and State Fire Commissioner John King, a respected statewide official and veteran.
But Moore’s potential candidacy adds a distinctly populist, outsider tone to the mix — something many Republican voters in Georgia have been clamoring for. A staunch defender of the Second Amendment and a vocal critic of federal overreach, Moore has built a reputation as a fearless fighter for conservative values.
“Washington needs leaders who aren’t afraid to stand their ground,” Moore said this week. “Whether it’s in Washington as U.S. Senator, serving in President Trump’s administration abroad, or remaining right here in Georgia as the most conservative official in our state, we are praying and asking Jesus where He would like my family and teams to go next,”
With Jon Ossoff seen by many on the right as vulnerable heading into 2026, the GOP is gearing up for a fierce battle. Republicans see Georgia as a key pickup opportunity and voices like Moore’s could be the shot of momentum the party needs.
As the Republican primary field continues to take shape, all eyes will be on Trenton to see if Colton Moore makes his move — and redefines the race in the process.
