Multiple Fire Calls Over The Weekend In Walker County

With the high winds and dry conditions in Walker County several calls went out to the Walker County Fire Department over the weekend. Brush fires along with wildfires that were caused by various things.

Per the US National Weather Service, during these windy and dry times it is best to avoid outdoor burning. Some surrounding departments have gone as far as banning outdoor burning, like Hamilton County Fire, just to our North in neighboring Tennessee.

According to the GA Forestry Fire Map as of 8:00 PM on Sunday evening, March 23, there is an active 150 acre wildfire involving the north end of the Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area. There were a few other brush fires in other areas of the county.

If you must burn, please remember to only burn hand piled vegetation, make sure there is a water source to extinguish the burn and never leave a fire unattended.
