THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER
BY THE GOVERNOR:
FLAGS ON ALL STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF
WHEREAS: National Fentanyl Prevention Awareness Day is recognized annually on August 21st; and
WHEREAS: Fentanyl-laced opioids and counterfeit pills, which can look identical to safe prescription medications, constitute a growing threat to young people; and
WHEREAS: Overdose deaths among adolescents 10-19 years old across the country more than doubled between 2019 and 2021; and
WHEREAS: In recognition of National Fentanyl Prevention Awareness Day, August 21, 2024, to remember those lost to fentanyl overdose, show support for grieving families, and increase awareness about the risks of fentanyl, it is fitting and proper to lower the flags on all State buildings and grounds to half-staff.
Now, THEREFORE, IN MEMORY OF THOSE LOST TO FENTANYL OVERDOSE, AND PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the great State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, until sunset.
