NWS Issues Black Ice Warning for North Georgia

NORTH GEORGIA — The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says colder air and breezy winds are moving into the region, creating refreeze and black ice concerns this morning.

Officials warn that dangerous conditions are most likely on untreated surfaces, including:

  • Secondary roads

  • Backroads

  • Mountain roadways

  • Areas where rainwater or standing water remains

As temperatures drop, any remaining moisture may rapidly refreeze, making roadways appear wet when they are actually icy.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution if travel is necessary.

“If you must be on the roads, be safe,” officials said.

Residents are encouraged to delay travel if possible and remain weather-aware as conditions may change quickly.
