One person was killed and another injured in a head-on collision early Friday morning on U.S. Highway 27, just south of Saddle Ridge Elementary and Middle School.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a trooper was dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:39 a.m. following reports of a serious two-vehicle crash on GA-1, also known as U.S. 27.
Preliminary information indicates a Lexus sedan was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line and entered the southbound lanes. The vehicle then struck a Jeep Wrangler head-on. Authorities say the Jeep driver, who was traveling southbound in the left lane, had no opportunity to avoid the oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency medical personnel transported the driver of the Jeep to Erlanger for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. The identities of those involved have not yet been made public.
