April 28, 2025 – Ringgold, Georgia-A Catoosa County man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison, with 18 years to serve without parole, after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges in connection to a 2024 shooting incident involving law enforcement.
Travis Downie entered his guilty plea on February 25, 2025, in Catoosa County Superior Court. The charges included Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine (4–28 grams), Stalking, Harassing Communications, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The incident occurred on May 26, 2024, when Downie fired multiple shots at a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol car on American Boulevard. He fled the scene but was tracked and apprehended by a K-9 unit. Downie later cooperated with deputies and directed them to the firearm he had concealed under a nearby porch.
Due to his status as a repeat offender with a significant felony record in Hamilton County, Tennessee, Downie was sentenced as a recidivist. He will not be eligible for parole during the first 18 years of his sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Beth Evans.
“Law enforcement is one of the most dangerous jobs in our community, and we protect those who have the courage to wear the badge,” said District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller. “If Tennessee trash rolls downhill to Northwest Georgia, don’t worry—we’ll take care of it. We take out our trash and warehouse it in prison.”
Downie’s conviction and sentencing serve as a stern warning to violent offenders crossing into Georgia with prior criminal histories.
