Ringgold Mayor Nick Millwood announced in a video posted last week on his Facebook page that he plans to resign from his position and run for the Georgia State House seat representing Catoosa County — House District 3.
House District 3 covers part of Catoosa County and is currently represented in the Georgia House of Representatives by Republican Mitchell Horner of Ringgold. The seat includes portions of Catoosa County and has been held by Horner since 2023 under the current legislative map.
In his announcement, Millwood said his decision is rooted in a desire to take a more active role in shaping state policy and advocating for the interests of Catoosa County residents at the state capitol in Atlanta. He did not specify in the video exactly when he will formally resign as mayor, but indicated the transition would occur as he begins his campaign for the legislative seat.
Millwood’s tenure as mayor has been marked by a focus on economic development and local infrastructure improvements. In his campaign announcement, he emphasized those themes as priorities for state-level representation, stating that Catoosa County needs “strong leadership in Atlanta that understands our community’s unique needs.”
