Additionally, flash flooding and downed trees were reported, and fire personnel responded to multiple lightning strike calls throughout the county.
The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Walker County earlier in the day, forecasting large hail and damaging winds. The storms delivered on those predictions, causing significant disruption.
City officials reported that lightning delayed utility crews’ ability to respond immediately to power outages. However, crews worked diligently, and power was restored by Friday evening. The storms also brought down trees and caused flash flooding in various areas.
