HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. – Tragedy struck overnight in East Ridge when a large tree, loosened by heavy rains and saturated ground, fell onto a car, killing two adults and a child inside.

Hamilton County officials say the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

The deadly incident comes as emergency crews continue to respond to widespread flooding across the region. Authorities are also searching for a man last seen walking through floodwaters on East Brainerd Road. His condition and whereabouts remain unknown.

First responders have been working through the night and into the morning, fanning out across affected neighborhoods to check on residents and assist anyone in danger. Roads remain blocked in several areas due to high water, downed trees, and debris.

Officials urge residents to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary and to stay away from floodwaters, which can conceal dangerous currents and hidden hazards.

The National Weather Service reports that the area has received several inches of rain in recent days, leaving the ground unstable and rivers and creeks swollen. More showers are possible later today.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
