Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the fatal fentanyl overdose of a Lafayette man earlier this year, following an investigation by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a residence on April 11, 2025, where 31-year-old David Victor Benitez was found deceased. An autopsy later confirmed that Benitez died as a result of a fentanyl overdose.
Investigators determined that Benitez had obtained the fentanyl from two suspects: 26-year-old Christopher Vance Bell of Rock Spring and 27-year-old Kelly Rae Durham of Rossville.
Both suspects have been charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated involuntary manslaughter and the sale or possession of a dangerous drug. They remain in custody at the Walker County Jail.
The case remains under investigation.
