According to the NWS a forecast for 0.10 (one-tenth) inch to 0.25 (one-quarter) inch of freezing rain may not sound like much, but here’s why a light coating of ice can be crippling. Just a glaze of ice can make travel dangerous, as vehicle tires easily lose traction. Additionally, the extra weight (and ice is deceptively heavy!) on power lines and tree limbs can lead to power outages.
