LaFayette, GA-Lafayette Public Safety Director, Stacey Meeks, has confirmed the victims identities that passed away in the plane crash at Barwick–LaFayette Airport yesterday. Russel Edwards Jones, who lived in Lafayette Georgia, and Steve Boyd Powell, who lived in Cartersville Georgia.
Mr. Powell was the owner of the plane and was attempting to upgrade his pilot license status. The flight instructor, Mr. Jones, accompanied him. Officials don’t know yet what went wrong when Powell and Jones tried to land the plane as the victims were flying a very set routine flight pattern which is a consistent pattern other pilots take.
