The Walker County Board of Commissioners will hold its next regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will take place at the Courthouse Annex IV at 201 South Duke Street.
Commissioners will hear comments from the Chairwoman Angie Teems, receive a financial report, and review committee and department reports. A presentation is also scheduled, including a report on a FlashVote survey from Joe Legge, Director of Communications and Community Development.
A public hearing on planning and zoning matters is listed on the agenda, though officials note there was no Planning and Zoning Commission meeting held in December. Under county code, public comment on zoning requests will be limited to 12 minutes total for speakers in favor and 12 minutes total for those opposed, with each side allocating its time among speakers.
Several items are included on the consent agenda, which allows non-controversial matters to be approved without debate unless a commissioner requests otherwise. These include resolutions to reappoint members to the Animal Control Board and the Walker County Planning Commission; authorize the Historic Preservation Commission to apply for a grant and provide matching funds; and approve an extension of the county’s ambulance service contract with CHI Memorial Hospital EMS.
New business will include the election of a vice chair for the Board of Commissioners, adoption of a 2026 regular meeting calendar, approval of property conveyances and memorandums of understanding related to real property in Rossville, and the setting of qualifying fees for the 2026 general and primary elections.
Commissioners are also scheduled to consider adopting recommendations from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Hotel-Motel Tax Performance Review Board, approving a $774,750 contract with Yellowstone Landscape LLC, and awarding contracts and purchase orders related to interior work, fire protection systems, a generator, and emergency equipment for Walker County Fire Station No. 4 in Hinkle and Walker County Fire Rescue. Revisions to the county’s procurement standards policy are also on the agenda.
The meeting will conclude with commissioner comments, a potential executive session, and adjournment. The public is invited to attend.
