Walker County, GA — Nearly 70 miles of county roads are slated for resurfacing over the next two years, following approval by the Walker County Board of Commissioners. The contract was awarded to CW Matthews, a Georgia-based construction firm, after the county reviewed four competitive bids.

The ambitious project will resurface approximately 80 roads of various lengths during the 2025-2026 paving cycle. Among the most extensive stretches are Trion Highway (7.0 miles), Manning Mill Road (5.7 miles), Walnut Grove/Ridge Way Road (5.0 miles), McFarland Avenue (2.89 miles), and Shinbone Ridge Road (2.65 miles).

Additional roads set for improvement include Old Chattanooga Valley Road, Powder Springs Circle, Yankee Road, and North and South Long Hollow.

Funding for the resurfacing work will come from the voter-approved Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST). Under the terms of the contract, work must begin by July 1, 2025. At least 40 percent of the resurfacing must be completed by December 31, 2025, with full project completion required by September 30, 2026.

The improvements are part of the county’s ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade its transportation infrastructure.
