Walker County has been awarded a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge grant to support expanded digital access at the future site of Adventure Acres. Representatives from AARP Georgia visited the location this week to formally present the grant.
The funding will be used to install a solar-powered charging station and an internet hotspot, both of which will be available for public use once the park is operational.
The improvements are part of the broader development of Adventure Acres, a multi-use recreational space planned for the Chickamauga area. Despite previous construction delays, county officials say work on the site is expected to resume next week. The contractor in charge of building the splash pad and pavilion is set to return and continue development.
The AARP Community Challenge grant is aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages by funding quick-action projects that improve public spaces, accessibility, and social connections.
