Millions in local sales tax revenue will be the focus Tuesday evening as the Walker County Board of Commissioners convenes for a special called meeting to address funding from the upcoming 2026 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
County officials are expected to review and vote on an intergovernmental agreement outlining how proceeds from the 2026 SPLOST will be used and distributed among local jurisdictions. The SPLOST, a one-cent sales tax approved by voters, funds capital improvement projects such as roadwork, public safety facilities, and infrastructure upgrades.
In addition to planning for future revenue, commissioners will also consider Resolution R-059-25, which proposes how to allocate excess revenue collected from the 2020 SPLOST cycle. That resolution could mean additional funding for previously approved projects — or potentially new priorities — depending on the outcome of the discussion.
The special called meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, at the Walker County Commissioners Office, located at 101 South Duke Street in LaFayette.
The agenda also includes approval of minutes from the commission’s August 7 regular meeting, commissioner comments, and other procedural items.
The next regular meeting of the Walker County Board of Commissioners is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m. at a new location: 201 South Duke Street, LaFayette.
