The Walker County Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday, December 4, at 6 p.m. to conduct its final regular session of 2025. The meeting will be held at the Walker County Courthouse, with the agenda featuring zoning requests, multiple contract awards, and several administrative resolutions.
After opening formalities, commissioners are expected to approve the meeting agenda and the minutes from their November 6 regular session. Chairwoman Angie Teems will deliver comments, followed by financial, committee, and department reports.
A public hearing on two Planning and Zoning matters is scheduled. Ronnie Martin is requesting a variance to build a second home on 2.84 acres at 610 Townsend Road in Rocky Face. The Planning Commission has recommended approval with conditions. A second request, submitted by Clarence Lowell Poteet, seeks to rezone property at 29 Poteet Drive in Chickamauga from Agricultural (A-1) to Residential/Agricultural (RA). The Planning Commission has recommended approval as submitted.
Several items will be considered under the Consent Agenda, including a resolution to convey property previously approved in November, acceptance of a $75,000 grant for the District Hill Historic Cemetery Project, and appointments to the Walker County Historic Preservation Commission and the Walker County Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Additional items include an appointment to the Board of Assessors, a memorandum of understanding with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, and two transportation-related agreements involving the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia Department of Human Services.
Commissioners will also take up new business involving more than $700,000 in proposed purchases and infrastructure work. These include:
A contract award for mowing, litter pickup, and weed control
A contract for resurfacing the Walker Rocks Park Trail
A $30,952 purchase of a digital message board for the new Elections Office (funded by SPLOST 2020)
A $99,116 project to replace a traffic signal at McFarland Avenue and North Jenkins Road
A $71,284 agreement for a new UPS system for Walker County 911 (SPLOST-funded)
A $505,000 purchase of a 2025 Gradall excavator
The board will also vote on the two zoning items following the earlier public hearing.
The meeting will conclude with commissioner comments and, if needed, an executive session. Adjournment will follow.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is set for Thursday, January 8, at a new location: 201 South Duke Street.
