The Walker County Board of Commissioners will convene for its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Among the highlights of the agenda are two key public hearings — one for the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget and another on a zoning request — along with votes on several resolutions that could impact county operations and spending.
During the zoning hearing, the board will consider a request by Jeff Tucker to rezone property at 1423 Happy Valley Road in Rossville from residential (R-3) to commercial (C-1). The Planning Commission has recommended approval with conditions. Public comments on zoning decisions must be submitted in writing prior to the meeting, per county code.
Also on the agenda is unfinished business regarding a variance request from Paul Leming, which has been tabled until September.
Commissioners will vote on adopting both the general fund and special revenue budgets for FY2026, along with a host of other financial and operational matters, including:
New Paid Time Off (PTO) and Compensatory Time Buyback policies
An agreement on 2026 SPLOST fund distribution
A resolution authorizing a SPLOST referendum upon the expiration of the current tax
A purchase order of nearly $39,000 for AED devices for county facilities
A resolution to finance new fire apparatus
Funding for sediment remediation at the former Coats American plant site
The meeting will also include routine reports from the chairwoman, financial and department updates, and public comment opportunities.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 4, at a new location: 201 South Duke Street.
