Walker County Commissioners to Consider Zoning Requests, Contracts at March 5 Meeting

The Walker County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on March 5 at the Walker County Courthouse Annex III, 201 South Main Street in LaFayette.

Reports will include the chairwoman’s update and a financial report from CFO Christian Roach, along with committee and department reports and any scheduled presentations.

Several planning and zoning matters are set for public hearing. Requests include:

  • William and Christy White seeking a partial rezone from commercial to residential/agricultural on property along South Highway 27.

  • Cora Sue Burse requesting a rezone from agricultural to residential/agricultural on South Dicks Creek Road in LaFayette.

  • Joel Nix seeking a partial rezone from agricultural to residential/agricultural on West Rogers Road in LaFayette.

  • Jay Brooks requesting a variance to divide less than five acres in an agricultural zone on West Highway 136 in Rising Fawn.

Under county code, speakers for and against each zoning request will be limited to a total of 12 minutes per side. The Planning Commission has recommended approval of all four requests as submitted.

Commissioners will also consider several items under the consent agenda, including amendments to the county’s Equal Opportunity Employment and Employee PTO policies.

New business includes proposed budget amendments for Fiscal Year 2025, contract awards for a historic resource survey, the Ivy Street culvert replacement, repairs to the county fleet and public works facility, right-of-way weed control, and approval of a memorandum of understanding regarding the disposition of certain real property in Rossville.

The meeting will conclude with public comment, commissioner comments, and a possible executive session before adjournment.
