Walker County Mourns The Loss Of Lafayette City Councilman Beacher Garmany

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved friend, Councilman Beacher Garmany. Councilman Garmany served Ward 1 since January 2014 with unwavering dedication and kindness. He was a true friend to everyone he met, offering support to every employee and department. We have countless examples of his selfless service to his community—from staying by the cash register during our annual “Shop with a Cop” event to cover any child’s expenses that exceeded their allotment, to consistently voting in the best interests of the city as a whole—Councilman Garmany’s selfless service has left an indelible mark on us all. He will be remembered and missed with great respect and affection.
Councilman Garmany leaves behind his wife, JoAnne Garmany, and their daughter, Rechelle Garmany Adkins.
Our city’s flags will be lowered to half-mast in honor of his service to the City of LaFayette.

Beacher Shields Garmany, Jr., age 82, of LaFayette passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of LaFayette First Baptist Church since September 3, 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents Beacher S. and Ruby H. Garmany; and younger brother, Charles E. Garmany.After graduating from LaFayette High School in 1960, Beacher joined the US Army and served until 1965. Beacher owned Garmany Motors from 1970 to 1984 and worked as a manufacturer’s representative from 1984 to 2007 until his retirement. He was a member of the LaFayette City Council, Ward 1, from January 2, 2014 until the time of his passing. He was also a member of the American Legion.Beacher is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, JoAnne Garmany; and his daughter, Rechelle G. Adkins and her husband Scott Adkins, whom he loved as his own son.The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Morrison, the Reece, the Ramey, and the Waddington families for their care and support.

A private graveside service will be held at LaFayette City Cemetery with Dr. Derrick Fielder officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mayor Andy Arnold, Councilmen Anthony Underwood, Tim Rayburn, Chris Davis, Wayne Swanson, City Manager David Hamilton, and Rodney Parker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Denny Brock, the McDonald’s Breakfast Group, and Johnny Holder.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 28, at the LaFayette First Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LaFayette Care Mission at 105 N Chattanooga St, LaFayette, GA 30728 or the Walker County Animal Shelter at 5488 N Marble Top Rd, Chickamauga, GA 30707.
