Walker County officials say they are taking steps to improve financial transparency following a state review that raised concerns over how the county reports its use of tourism tax funds.

The Georgia Hotel-Motel Tax Review Board recently completed an investigation into claims that tourism tax revenue had been improperly used to benefit the McLemore Golf Resort. The board determined that Walker County did not violate state law but identified issues related to reporting and public transparency.

County officials say they are reviewing the board’s findings and considering recommendations to strengthen accountability and ensure compliance with state reporting standards.
