LaFayette, GA — Walker County has been awarded a $200,000 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant to renovate the Walker Rocks Trail on the Walker County Civic Center campus, local officials announced this week.

The project aims to replace the existing gravel path with a more durable, permanent surface—such as asphalt or bonded rubber—to reduce frequent washouts and make the trail accessible year-round. The county will contribute an additional $80,000 in matching funds to complete the effort.

In addition to resurfacing, the renovation will include the installation of signage along the trail to highlight attractions throughout Walker County. The upgrades are scheduled to begin this fall.

Funded by the Federal Highway Administration and administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, RTP supports the development and maintenance of recreational trails across the state.
