The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving callers who are falsely claiming to be employees or officers with the agency.
According to the sheriff’s office, multiple reports have been received from individuals who say they were contacted by someone claiming they had missed jury duty and now had a warrant for their arrest. In some cases, the caller is able to make it appear as though the call is coming from the sheriff’s office main phone line.
Authorities stress that the Walker County Sheriff’s Office does not operate in this manner and will not call individuals demanding money or personal information over the phone.
Residents are urged not to provide any personal information or send money to anyone they do not know. Anyone who receives a suspicious call or has questions about the matter is encouraged to contact the Walker County Sheriff’s Office directly at 706-670-1931.
