Walker County residents will have a chance to dispose of unwanted tires for free during this year’s Retire Your Tires Amnesty Day, taking place on Saturday, November 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Walker County Landfill, located at 5120 N Marble Top Road in Chickamauga.
The annual event allows for the disposal of car, light truck, and ATV tires with wheel sizes 20 inches or smaller, free of charge. All tires must be dismounted, dry, and free of mud or debris. Tires with rims, as well as large truck, tractor, or heavy equipment tires, are not accepted. Landfill staff will inspect incoming loads and reserve the right to refuse any tires not meeting the requirements.
To qualify for free disposal, participants must:
Be a Walker County resident (no businesses or commercial drop-offs)
Present proof of residency (e.g., driver’s license or utility bill)
Unload their own tires
Adhere to a limit of 15 tires per vehicle
In addition to the landfill location, a satellite drop-off site will be available at the Rossville Public Works building, located on the east side of the ballpark off Ellis Road. The same rules and hours apply to the Rossville site.
The event is part of Walker County’s ongoing effort to reduce illegal dumping and promote responsible disposal of waste materials.
