Work Begins on Chickamauga Battlefield Connector Trail

SHARE NOW

Construction is now underway on the Chickamauga Battlefield Connector Trail, a new multi-use path that will link the city of Chickamauga to the historic Chickamauga Battlefield. Designed for both walkers and cyclists, the trail will span just over two miles.

Following the route of the old Dry Valley Road, the trail traces a historic path once used by Union troops during the Civil War. Soldiers marched from Mountain Cove through Chickamauga to the battlefield near Wilder Tower. The area also served as a key site for transporting wounded soldiers from both sides of the conflict, with the Gordon-Lee House operating as a makeshift field hospital during the war.

Officials say the trail will offer residents and visitors improved access to nature, while preserving an important part of the region’s Civil War history. In addition to encouraging outdoor activity, the project is expected to provide long-term economic and recreational benefits for the local community.

Construction began this week and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
