Scenic Land Development withdrew their application for a sporting clay shooting range in Mountain Cove. That didn’t stop residents from voicing their opposition at last night’s Walker County Board of Commissioners meeting. Opponents of the range cited noise, environmental pollution, unwanted traffic and an expected devaluation of neighboring properties. The Walker County Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously last week to deny the application. The application could be resubmitted in six months.
The LaFayette Police Department is warning the community about a potential scam. A house inside the city limits of LaFayette was listed for sale by an individual. A citizen did their homework before meeting with the individual or giving out any personal information. The individual claiming to be selling the home was not affiliated with the company managing the property. LaFayette police encourage you to do your due diligence when purchasing items or meeting someone to view items for sale. The police encourage people to meet in the parking spaces on Wardlaw Street near Main Street. It’s highly visible, well-lit and there are cameras facing that direction.
LaFayette was up nearly 2 ½ inches of rainfall above normal in the month of September. It’s the 22nd wettest September on record in the last 130 years. Despite the rain in September, we are still more than an inch below normal for rainfall this year.

The LaFayette girls’ softball team is headed to the Elite 8. The Ramblers swept Harlem yesterday by taking game one, 1-0 and game two 4-0. The Ramblers will play in the Elite 8 in Columbus on Wednesday. They’ll face the winner of today’s game between Jefferson and Heritage. All games in Columbus are double elimination.
